Moving Beyond Symptoms to Systems
Most psychological approaches look at "what" is happening. The Acts of Self framework looks at "where" it is happening within the internal system. By identifying the specific parts of the self - or "Acts" - that are driving behaviour, we can move from reactive survival to proactive self-leadership.

A Practical Synthesis of Proven Theory
While the Acts of Self model is a unique framework for navigating the internal world, its foundations are built upon robust, evidence-informed psychological principles. We have integrated elements from theories such as CBT, Attachment Theory, Compassion-Focused Therapy and others into a single, practical language. By moving away from dense clinical jargon, we provide a visual way to understand the different 'parts' of our internal world - from the protective instincts of The Guardian to the values that drive The Guide. Explore The Acts below:

The Power of Systematic Self-Leadership
Most psychological approaches focus on the "what" - the symptoms we feel or the behaviours we want to change. The Acts of Self framework shifts the focus to the "where." By categorising our internal experiences into the Meaning, Narrative, and Safety systems, we gain a high-resolution map of our internal world. This clarity allows us to move beyond reactive habits and toward a state of proactive self-leadership, where we no longer just experience our thoughts and feelings, but actively direct the Acts that drive them. The Acts all speak to each other and understanding the conflicts between them allows us to increase our awareness, align them and drive change.

From Internal Conflict to Cohesion
We often feel like a "house divided" - where our values (The Guide) want one thing, but our fears (The Guardian) demand another. This framework treats these conflicts not as flaws, but as a lack of communication between internal systems. When we understand the biological necessity of the Safety System and the interpretative power of the Narrative System, we can begin to align them with the Meaning System. This alignment is the key to sustainable performance and wellbeing; it reduces the friction of internal resistance and allows for a unified, authentic presence in both our personal and professional lives.
A Foundation for Enduring Change
The Acts of Self framework is more than a creative metaphor; it is a practical synthesis of established psychological science. By anchoring our internal Acts in the proven theories such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Polyvagal Theory we move beyond temporary 'fixes' toward structural change.
This evidence-based approach ensures that the insights gained are not just understood intellectually, but are integrated biologically and cognitively. It provides a robust, professional architecture for self-leadership that stands up to the pressures of high-stakes environments and the complexities of the human experience. We use five steps to facilitate change:
1) Identify 2) Understand 3) Collaborate
4) Direct 5) Reflect

The Pathway to Integration
The Acts of Self provides a scalable architecture for mental health literacy and professional development. We deploy the framework across three core delivery streams to meet the urgent needs of modern healthcare and industry:
-
1:1 Therapy | For the individual referrals Utilising the framework as a high-resolution map for deep-seated internal conflict. By creating a safe space and identifying the interplay between the Acts, we move clients from reactive survival to authentic self-leadership.
-
Service & Waitlist Solutions | For high-demand settings A proactive solution for organisations and clinics facing high demand. We provide structured, "Acts-based" group interventions that stabilise the Safety System and provide immediate metacognitive tools while individuals await long-term care.
-
Training (CPD) & Performance | For professional and charitable organisations Specialised training for practitioners, educators, and leaders. We translate complex psychological theory into a practical "User Manual for the Mind," ensuring that professional development is grounded in evidence-based clinical science rather than "wellness" trends.
Start the Dialogue
The Acts of Self is not a static theory; it is a functioning architecture for change. Whether you are wanting more support for your staff, managing a clinical waitlist, or leading a corporate team, the first step is identifying which system requires alignment.
When you get in touch, we will focus on your specific systemic needs:
Restoring the Safety System: Addressing burnout, reactive survival states, and the biological need for stability.
Updating the Narrative System: Moving beyond "fixed" past identities to create a flexible, empowering professional story.
Leading from the Meaning System: Aligning your daily actions with a clear, values-led focus to ensure enduring purpose.
"When we started to explore the Acts of Self I feel like I made the most progress and it provides the breakdown I desperately needed to understand myself. Incredibly beneficial and I am so grateful for it! Thank you for creating such a life changing theory!"
