Bridging the Gap to Care

In 2026, for every three people waiting for mental health treatment, two report a significant decline in their condition before their first session. A "waitlist" shouldn't mean "waiting without support." Current triage systems identify the problem, but they don't provide the Language of Recovery. This leaves patients in a state of high-alert anxiety, often reaching crisis point before they ever see a therapist.

Waitlist Solutions

The Problem: The "Static" Waitlist
Traditional mental health waitlists are "passive." A referral is made, and the patient enters a period of silence and uncertainty. This is when The Guardian becomes hyper-vigilant, The Historian ruminates on past failures, and the risk of clinical deterioration is at its highest.

The Solution: The Acts of Self "Warm-Start" Protocol
We move patients from a "Passive Waitlist" to an Active Preparation Phase. This is not therapy; it is Systemic Education led by clinical practitioners to stabilise and prepare the individual for their eventual 1:1 treatment.

The Acts of Self Waitlist Foundation

The Strategy: Clinical Holding Bridge
We replace the "Passive Waitlist" with a Rolling Curriculum of framework-led sessions. This is a high-volume, high-impact model where one clinician supports up to 20 patients per hour, ensuring no one is left "waiting in silence."

A Comprehensive Modular Library
Drawing from over 40 unique, field-tested clinical modules, the Foundation offers a diverse range of psychoeducational topics. Each session is delivered through the Acts of Self lens, providing patients with a consistent "Internal Boardroom" language to manage their symptoms.

Here are some examples of sessions that could be delivered:

  • Understanding Control - Allowing the Guardian to loosen its Grip

  • Sleep Hygiene - Its Not Just About the Body

  • Understanding our Emotions - An Acts of Self Approach

  • The Power of Saying No - The Role of your Narrative System

  • Anxiety - Understand your Safety System

Flexible Delivery Models
Because our curriculum is modular, we can adapt to the specific needs of any Trust or Organisation:

The Foundation Track: A 6–8 week "Introductory Circuit" for new referrals.

The Residency Model: A rolling "Drop-In" academy where patients can access support for as long as they remain on the waitlist.

Targeted Intensives: Focused blocks (e.g., 4 weeks on "Anxiety & The Guardian") for specific diagnostic clusters.

The Active Participant Workbook
Every Foundation member receives the Acts of Self Journal.

Tactile Engagement: A physical anchor that provides "between-session" exercises for all to aid reflection, understanding and help themselves take steps forwards before they even reach support.

Clinical Data Handover: Patients track their Acts, creating a rich data set to hand over to their 1:1 therapist, significantly accelerating the start of individual treatment.

Clinical Governance & Safety Netting

While the Acts of Self Foundation is psychoeducational, safety is integrated into the framework.

Clinician-Led Oversight: Every session is facilitated by a BACP-registered (or equivalent) practitioner, ensuring that "active holding" includes professional risk monitoring.

The 'Red Flag' Protocol: Our facilitators are trained to identify when an individual’s Guardian or Body signals suggest they have moved beyond the scope of group support, providing immediate internal triage for the host organisation.

Non-Diagnostic Clarity: By using the "Acts" language, we bypass the stigma of labels, allowing patients to engage with their symptoms without the "Identity Crisis" often triggered by waiting for a formal diagnosis.

"It's lovely to have a reminder on things that are so easily forgotten in the modern day and the whirlwind of life. I really like it too because it's a session every week where I can think about improving myself and my life and have time to reflect and focus on myself - it's my guaranteed weekly session of self-care."

Integration: The "Plug-and-Play" Model

We have designed the Foundation to be "Frictionless" for existing services.

Referral Integration: As soon as a patient is added to your 1:1 waitlist, they are automatically invited to the next available Acts of Self module.

The Seamless Handover: The transition from waitlist to 1:1 therapy is bridged by the Acts of Self Journal. The therapist receives a "Ready-to-Work" client who already understands their internal boardroom, effectively "gaining" 4–6 weeks of therapeutic progress before the first session.

Feedback: We provide tailored feedback on how the sessions are impacting service users and how they feel on their journey to receiving further support.

Stop managing a list. Start the work. Let’s turn the waiting period into the most productive phase of the patient’s journey.
